Bonita Clifton’s first love...

... was books, lots of books. A dog-eared copy of the Wizard of Oz, the Scholastic Book Club in grade school, and her favorite haunt, the library. She began writing her own stories as soon as she could hold a pen, though was far too shy to read them aloud when the teacher asked. As she grew older, she devoured fantasy, history, true survival stories, and, eventually, historical romance. 

Fast-forward a few years.

One day, while looking at a photograph of Tom Cruise (no judgment), Bonita imagined a Wild West show in a bustling mountain town. A handsome cowboy from another era saunters into the arena, scanning the audience. Clearly out of place, he seemed confused by the strange world around him. Then, as though drawn by an invisible force, his gaze locks with that of a woman in the crowd...

“Dang it,” Bonita thought. “Where’s my pen? I need to write this down.”

And just like that, legendary Wyoming gunslinger Colton Chase came to life.

Bonita’s first time-travel romance, Time of the Rose, was published by Dorchester/Leisure Books and became a 1995 HOLT Medallion finalist. Now newly updated, Time of the Rose: Third Edition introduces Colt and Madison’s timeless love story to a new generation of readers as Book One of the Twisted Rose Saga. A special-edition hardcover is in the works!

Today, Bonita is a bestselling, award-winning author of time-travel, historical, and contemporary romance. Her stories blend adventure, mystery, humor, and heartfelt romance, often against the rugged beauty of the American West. She is currently expanding the Twisted Rose Saga and developing her first cozy romantasy series.

Beyond writing, Bonita is “Mom” to four wonderful adults and “Grammy B” to a growing family of grandchildren. Her favorite things—besides books—include dogs, horses, and bears, all of which have a habit of finding their way into her stories.

After touring the United States in an RV, and spending the summer of 2018 working at Yellowstone National Park, Bonita embarked on an even greater adventure: three years of traveling through Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Asia while researching and writing.

She is now happily settled in Wisconsin, where she continues to dream up courageous heroines, unforgettable heroes, and love stories powerful enough to transcend time.
